Who we are

Kapmo is a mobile app that delivers context-aware photo challenges and saves captured moments to a photo diary.

Information we collect

• Account and contact: Name and email for registered users; guest IDs for temporary use.
• App activity: Challenge history, reroll counts, submissions, streaks, achievements, and related in-app actions.
• Location and weather context: Approximate or precise location (with your permission) to tailor prompts; weather data retrieved using your location. You can disable location-based personalization in the app.
• Photos: Images you capture and upload for challenges, plus validation feedback (scores and flags). If you choose Add Context, you can also provide up to four temporary surroundings photos to shape one fresh challenge. Those surroundings photos are not added to your diary or permanent Kapmo storage.
• Optional Add Context: A short note you choose to provide about your current situation. Kapmo uses it to shape one fresh challenge. The note and a neutral scene summary can remain on your device for up to four hours so the context can be reused, then expire or clear when you change modes.
• Device and technical: Device model, operating system, app version, push notification token, and basic diagnostics.
• Preferences: Notification settings and selected reminder days and times. Reminder activity and completion dates are kept locally to pause or suppress reminders.
• Website analytics: This website uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregated page-view statistics. It may process the page or route visited, referrer, filtered query information, country or city, browser, operating system, and device type. Vercel Web Analytics does not use third-party cookies or give Kapmo a persistent cross-site identity for you.

How we collect information

• You provide it directly (account details, photos, preferences, and optional Add Context notes or surroundings photos).
• Automatically from your device when using the app (logs, device / app info, push token).
• With permission from device sensors (camera, location) to power photo challenges.
• From service providers we use to run the app (e.g., weather data based on location).

How we use information

• Deliver, personalize, and improve challenges (including location- and weather-based prompts).
• Validate submissions with AI image checks, award points/streaks, and store your gallery.
• Use the optional Add Context note or surroundings photos only to shape a fresh challenge. They are excluded from reminder previews.
• Send optional, quiet challenge reminders on selected days. When suitable, reminders automatically quote an unfinished challenge on the lock screen. Temporary scene context and private place descriptions are excluded. Reminders pause after two weeks without app activity and require an explicit resume.
• Operate, maintain, secure, and debug the app; prevent abuse and enforce usage limits.
• Provide support and respond to requests.

Sharing and third parties

We do not sell your data. We share only as needed to run Kapmo:

• Supabase: Authentication, database, edge functions, and file storage.
• OpenRouter and OpenAI: Challenge text generation with an OpenAI model through OpenRouter. A request can include the context you chose, your local time and weekday, the weather, your city and the place you picked (when exploring or at a specific place), an optional Add Context note, a short description of surroundings photos, or a usual-place description, and the text of your recent challenges. Coordinates, street names and photos are not included.
• Google: Google Sign-In when selected, plus Gemini for temporary surroundings-image analysis and photo validation.
• DeepL: Translation of short challenge text when a translated version is needed.
• Geoapify: Nearby-place lookup using coordinates when location personalization is enabled.
• Open-Meteo: Weather context based on your location.
• CARTO: Map imagery for the location preview attached to a saved diary entry.
• Push notifications: Expo/Apple/Google services to deliver alerts.
• Vercel: Website hosting and aggregated website analytics.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

Data retention

• Account and activity data are kept while your account remains active.
• Guest data is kept only as needed to enforce guest usage limits.
• Uploaded photos and validation feedback are retained for your gallery unless you delete them or request removal.
• Optional Add Context surroundings photos are not placed in your diary or permanent Kapmo storage. The local note and neutral scene summary expire after four hours, or earlier if you clear the context or change modes.
• Vercel discards the temporary website visitor hash after 24 hours; Kapmo may retain aggregated page-view statistics for trend analysis.
• We may retain certain information if necessary for legal, security, or compliance reasons.

Your choices and rights

• Permissions: You can disable location or camera in device settings; some features may be limited. You can also turn off location-based personalization in the app.
• Notifications: Manage or revoke push notifications in app settings or device settings.
• Access or deletion: You can delete your account in-app (Profile > Privacy & Location > Delete Account). If you close your account, we will delete or de-identify associated data unless retention is required for legal or security reasons.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure.

Children

Kapmo is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

International transfers

Data may be processed or stored in countries other than your own. We take steps to help protect your information consistent with this policy.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will post changes with an updated effective date.
